Perkembangan teknologi, industri beserta konten mobile di tahun lalu hingga tahun ini menuai banyak inovasi baru dan produk-produk yang sangat dekat dengan si pengguna. Hal ini membuat acara Mobile World Congress 2012 semakin menarik perhatian masyarakat dunia, baik yang ingin melihat produk yang akan datang atau sekedar menganalisa peta kekuatan industri ini di tahun 2012. Kemarin di tanggal 28 Februari 2012, GSMA mengumumkan pemenang dari Global Mobile Awards ke 17. Dan saya rasa para predikat pemenang dari acara sekelas MWC 2012 ini akan meningkatkan nama dari produk tersebut di mata pengguna.
Global Mobile Awards sendiri merupakan acara tahunan berkala yang memberikan apresiasi terhadap produk beserta layanan mobile yang paling kreatif, inovatif dan tentunya mampu membawa perubahan di industri mobile itu sendiri.
Dalam Global Mobile Awards ke-17 ini, Angry Birds dari Rovio berhasil memenangi aplikasi mobile terbaik untuk konsumer. Citrix juga memenangi kategori aplikasi mobile terbaik untuk kalangan enterprise. Kemudian ada WhatsApp yang menjadi pilihan juri sebagi aplikasi mobile terbaik. Untuk masalah layanan mobile, Google dipilih sebagai yang terbaik dengan sederetan aplikasi aplikasinya.
Dari kategori produk smartphone, Samsung Galaxy S II menyabet gelat smartphone terbaik. Sedangkan untuk pasar feature phone, Nokia C3 berhasil duduk sebagai pemenang. Selain menempatkan produk sebagai smartphone terbaik, Samsung juga berhasil menjadi manufaktur terbaik di tahun ini. Sedangkan untuk urusan tablet, Apple iPad 2 masih merajai segmen ini.
Yang cukup menarik adalah munculnya Kolombia sebagai pemenang penghargaan Goverment Leadership di tahun ini. Sebuah pencapaian yang cukup hebat mengingat kondisi Kolombia yang sebenarnya tidak jauh beda dengan negara kita Indonesia.
